Pretty solid. Whenever I see either of them on the road, I usually notice. Nice looking cars, solid performers. Neither would get my money probably, but I do like them.

I think the Veloster is neat, but the Genesis Coupe doesn't do anything for me. I haven't driven either if that helps.

I haven't driven the Gen coupe...but I drove the Veloster Turbo, it's nice but didn't feel as quick as I wanted and didn't have the steering feel that was used to in my Mazda3.

The Genesis is awesome. Not so much for the Veloster turbo. Too small engine, FWD.
I test drove the genesis, and it felt like a solid car. Aftermarked is really developped for the 2.0T

Drove a Gen coupe, thought the mustang and camaro were better. Seemed a little shoddy as when I went to shift into reverse, the shift knob turned as it was loose. Otherwise just didn't do it for me. Then again neither did the mustang or camaro.
My buddy has a Veloster turbo, and its pretty nice. Although it would be nice if the rear didn't slope as much since basically the back seats only support though shorter than 5.5 ft tall.

I like them both, though I don't think the Veloster is going to age well, but 2013/2014 it looks bad ass.

Genesis Coupe, yes.
Veloster: Just say no. I bought a Mini Clubman S instead.

I'm infatuated with the GC. It's one hell of a car, especially considering its roots. They keep getting better and better with each MY, and should have a very strong contender in the sport/pony class very soon. The 2.0T is awesome (though early versions had a weak bottom end that could cause some catastrophes if not treated properly) and the 3.8 V6 pulls strong, has a great set of numbers and also good sound. The automatic transmissions are coming along nicely and almost give you great control over the gears. The manuals are nicely set up, though I've heard there is some slop in the shifter (people say just screwing the knob on 1 more rotation from factory seems to alleviate a lot of it). The 2.0T is still on my short list.
The Veloster is a neat little car, though it doesn't check any of the boxes for me. It looks like it can haul cargo, but really the interior space is pretty cramped. You cannot, unlike an old 900, fit a fridge in the back. I've heard horror stories about the infotainment system, some saying the screen can be downright atrocious. The 3rd door is rather novel though and works incredibly well for its purpose! NA, they're sluggish and very close to boring. I haven't had a chance to drive the Turbo yet.

I've ridden in a Veloster Turbo, and it just feels slow, even with the DCT autobox.
The back seat is much more inviting than the Clubman, but thank God I'm driving the Mini instead of riding in it :)

Everyone complains about the shift knob in the GC. It turns out they don't screw 'em on completely from the factory. One more rotation makes it solid :)

I drove the "twin clutch" veloster base model. Shifts are slow and brutal with poor quality seats and other interior bits. Engine was mediocre. Lots of legroom, good seating position, and a decent layout of buttons and controls but other than that, nothing to recommend.

Driven them both. A friend had an early 3.8 Gen Coupe and it was a great car. Very reliable, great torque, awesome handling and actually fairly practical.
My mom had a Veloster Turbo when they first came out and again I was pretty impressed with it. While not has hard edged as a Civic SI or some of the other small sporty cars, I did think it handled well. The interior was also surprisingly roomy, the third door made access to the back seat very easy.
For my money I'd rather have the Gen Coupe as its more "sports car", then "hot hatch" but I wouldn't kick either one out of the driveway.

True, just leaves me with the "what else did they not screw in all the way" taste in my mouth. But I've heard that they are generally good cars.

Fit and finish is pretty good on the GCs. I really don't understand why they leave the shifter unscrewed like that; a lot of dealerships have taken to giving them one more rotation when they arrive

performance wise, i'm getting the feeling of a Volvo C30 on this Veloster with more interior room. An ok little car but when pushed it looses to a Focus ST for example. Nothing but good notes for the GC though, but nobody has mentioned anything about it as an FRS/BRZ competitor but more of a V6 Mustang option.

1) I don't like the looks. Some people are ok with the looks and think a boxy Mini is weird. Personal thing.
2) It's actually not that fast with a manual. 7.3 seconds 0-60 with the 6MT. The Mini Clubman S does 6.8 seconds with a manual.
But mainly it's the styling. My top three hot hatches I was looking at when I bought my car were the Mini Clubman S, the VW GTI, and the Focus ST.
And looking back: Why didn't I test drive the Veloster? Because I forgot that Hyundai made it. For me, that's case in point: I don't like anonymous boxes. Hyundai managed to take something that should be a head turner, and made it forgettable.
I'll take a Genesis Coupe. 2.0T. Because for the price of a 3.8L, you are within striking distance of a Mustang GT.

Exactly. I looked at the Veloster the same way I looked at the C30. They both fell short in every aspect. But where Volvo just kept the C30 the same throughout its life, maybe Hyundai will do big things in the Veloster's 2nd or 3rd gen. Who knows?
As for comparing the GC to the Toyobaru, there really isn't a comparison. They're just not in the same category. The GC is larger, heavier and designed to provide a different experience than the FRS/BRZ. I think they're gunning for the V6 pony cars, and they may get there shortly, but right now it's just not quite right. Why pay $29k for an entry GC V6 when the Camaro and Mustang start ~5 grand cheaper? The GC didn't enter the market in any specific genre, and that is something Hyundai needs to figure out quickly if they want to garner any real sales numbers.

cool cool I feel ya buddy, design was a good part along with performance. It was just one of those weekends where you see a bunch of a certain car that make think about them. Yet again though, the GC is getting compared competing to a Mustang over a Toyburu. Interesting, thanks for your input buddy, much appreciated :]

They should put a spin on that, something to the effect of we left this for the first owner to 'finish'.

The Gen coupe was a statement that Hyundai really had their aspirations set and could really make good cars even in the tight and competitive and opinionated Small mid-level Sport coupe market. It left a mark and confirmed Hyundai has made it.
The Veloster is a solid attempt in the Hot hatch market that offers something different (3 doors!!!! Not on alot of cars for vanilla reasons, so its pretty ballsy to do something like that) It might be slow out the box but with a tune it could keep up with a GTI I bet. I love the Veloster for all its impractical, asymmetrical, skull crushing reasons.

well put sir, and that seems to be the general consensus here. Good on Hyundai. The Veloster still needs some sculpting but not much from what i've been reading. Thanks for the input buddy :]

My girlfriend has a 2013 Veloster Turbo that I've driven quite a bit. I like it, but it's not as fast as I was expecting. The turbo seems tuned for quick spool and low-end grunt and feels like it falls off in higher RPM's. That said, for the price there is a TON of room inside, everything feels pretty nice, and it's fun to toss around. But I'd have a long hard look at the Fiesta ST in the same price range.

That seem to be the consensus here, utility is very good but the powetrain is lacking that special something. I believe once they figure what that is, it will complete better with the mighty ST, especially like you said in that price range. Thanks for the input :]
